Oliebollentoernooi 2024

Yvette is oliebol van 2024

On Sunday 7 January it was time again. The most prestigious tournament of the year was on the program. It was time again for the Oliebollen tournament! The interest was great and with 50 participants (again a very big record) we went looking for who would be Lex's successor.

It was great to see that at this event both the youth (some of whom had their very first tournament experience here), seniors, competition players, Wednesday/Thursday morning players were represented and everyone could play against everyone.

Around 13:00 the tournament started, except for Bilal everyone was on time, with the first of eventually 125 matches. This year Renée and Peter were allowed to kick off the tournament (5-11, 6-11). Between the matches all participants were well taken care of! Walter had the bar perfectly under
control. The delicious oliebollen were baked by Carla. On behalf of the organization and all participants, thank you very much! We enjoyed it!

Back to the sporting part. There were many beautiful and sporting matches played full of tension and real crackers. For example, Jan van de Meulenhof and Jean-Louis 11-8 simply find the perfect game result (11-8, 8-11, 8,11). Carlo and Tomislav kept it exciting until the end (7-11, 14-11, 12-10), Willem and Renée also needed an extension in the 3rd game (11-7, 4-11, 10-12). Lex managed to beat Arthur thanks to the support of his family and his fitness. (15-13, 13-11, 4-11). However, Ton's condition was also fine today, he managed to beat Marieke in the 5th match of the tournament. (11-8, 11-9).

After all 125 matches were played it turned out that exactly 1 player had managed to win all his matches. This was Kasim (final against Patrick from TV) who was later honored as tournament winner. Now quickly on to the most important.

Who will be allowed to add the most prestigious title of TTV Stiphout to their list of achievements? This year we were looking for the most generous player. Who grants their opponent the most and therefore the most points? In third place, who granted 120 points to his opponent, was Jan van Melick. Second place went to Ely with 124 granted points to her opponents. Now number 1. We suspect that she really played for this. That game against Toine (16-18) and the match against Mieke (10-12, 11-8, 12-10) are definitely noticeable. But nothing less, richly and richly deserved. The new oliebol from
the year is: Yvette!!! (Read below the piece about our proud oliebol of 2024)

A piece of our proud oliebol 2024

I still remember well that I was hesitating to register myself for the oliebollentoernooi… Because yes, it is fun (thanks to the organization!), the oliebollen are always delicious (made with love by Carla) and the 'dress rehearsal' for the new competition season is very important to do.

Unfortunately, last season didn't go very well. Our team was demoted and now we have to make it in the 7th class. But with this team I know for sure that this will be our season and that we won't end up in the lower regions! So with a pep talk in my pocket, I signed up.

This year it was decided to honor the most social player (the one who gave the most points to the opponent). If I had known this, I would not have made my first match against Toine (16-18 loss) so exciting. But anyway, I still feel honored to win the title with this line of thought.

For anyone who would like to know how I managed to get THE title of all titles: 'Oliebol of the year', here are some tips:

  • Train as little as possible, actually not at all. Not because you don't like it, but because your private life is just too busy.
  • Play at the maximum 30% of your ability. I would have liked to say I did, but I really gave it the full 80%.
  • Don't drink alcohol on the day itself. I failed to win 2 matches.
  • And of course the most important thing, enjoy the day and eat lots of oliebollen!
