On Saturday 14 January the club championships for our youth members were played. Where last year we only had 5 participants who were added to the senior tournament, this year there were 10. This could have been many more. We expect that to be the case next year.
We started in 3 groups, 2 of 3 and 1 of 4. The winners went to the final group, as did the number 2 from the group of 4. What a great game our youth showed! The players who have only recently joined, already showed that they have learned a lot! But also our older youth players conjured up balls on the table that many people think I would like to do myself. What was especially noticeable was that it was in a very nice, sporty atmosphere.
In the final pool (4-kamp) Liang, Loek, Max and Ryan played. These were often very exciting matches of a high level. In the consolation rounds (2 pools of 3, followed by placement matches) there were also many exciting matches to be seen. Many parents and family members showed their interest and despite 10 participants it was still pleasantly busy in Stiphouse.
When the last matches were played we could draw up the final score. Somewhat surprisingly, Ryan Sanders could be congratulated as Club Champion Youth. He is not the player with the highest rating of the participants, but he did show focus on the good moments and sometimes even surpassed himself in terms of play. Kudos to Ryan for this great achievement. His name will be immortalized on the board with all the club champions that hangs in the canteen. All 10 participants have qualified for the Top-12 that will be played shortly after the summer holidays. The Top-12 is a fun tournament, combined with the Top-12 for the senior members.
