On Saturday January 21st it was busy in Stiphouse. No less than 32 members participated in the
club championships seniors. Among them also the club champion youth, Ryan Sanders and the
Club Champion Recreational, Lambert Cox. After all, the title of Overall was being contested
Club champion and then the winners of the other tournaments may also participate.
It started with 8 four-way matches, where the rating determined the draw. After a few
surprises in this first round the numbers 1 and 2 went through to the main tournament and the
numbers 3 and 4 to the consolation tournament. In the first follow-up rounds four-way matches were played again
played. The winners of the four-way matches in the main round played for places 1 to 4,
the numbers 2 played for places 5 to 8 etc.
The women's title again went to Carolien, who thus defeated Yvette, winner of the 2022 edition,
dethroned.
The 4 players who reached the semi-finals were Erwin, Jörgen, Peter and Tomislav. Erwin played
against Tomislav and Jörgen against Peter. This resulted in a final of Erwin against Jörgen. Erwin,
reigning club champion and Jörgen, multiple club champion. Both gentlemen made a beautiful
battle of. In the fifth and deciding game it seemed to be Jörgen who came to 9-6, but
In the end Erwin managed to win with some fantastic points and thus his title
to extend.
Some fun facts about the tournament:
– it's been a long time since we had so many participants
– a total of 128 matches were played (so far calculated)
– Bilal, who has only been a member since the Thursday before, immediately showed that you always participate in this tournament
– Ario finished 17th and thus won the consolation tournament
– Ton was the oldest participant, but still capable of playing 8 games
– Carlo did not make it to the top 4 by winning 1 game too few
– Roland did not make it to the top 4 due to missing some match points
– The best 10 have qualified for the Top 12 after the summer. These will be supplemented with
wild cards and reserve players (by rating)
– Despite the crowds, Walter could easily handle the bar shift on his own
– Jan did not come last
